Melissa Smith
Melissa Smith, born in Lufkin, was a Southeast Texas girl most of her life. Her great grandmother had prayed for an Assembly of God Church to be established in Corrigan, the town they lived. God heard that prayer and soon, a new Church was born. Melissa credits a family of believers and prayer, that prepared her for the role she fills as Church Administrator in that Church.
Always having a compassionate heart for hurting people is what got initially drew her into ministry. To see people set free from strongholds and experience the life God has promised is her greatest desire.
Spending time with her family and friends is one thing she enjoys most. She is a wife and mother of two boys. She loves watching her youngest in sports, or having a movie date with her oldest, watching Hallmark movies with her parents, grabbing dinner with a friend, a cookout at the lake or taking a road trip with her husband are the things she cherishes. Melissa believes that today’s little moments become tomorrow’s precious memories. Luke 12:34, “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” has been the motivating scripture for her.
Melissa believes in the power of prayer to prepare the way for miracles of which Her marriage is a testimony. She believes God has far greater things ahead them. Melissa’s husband, Derick, was delivered from drugs and other life controlling issues. He spent a year in Christian programs, but it was Teen Challenge that God totally transformed his life. He now serves on a social media ministry team that serves people around the world. A scripture that she stood, and still stands on today, is found in 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18, “Always be joyful. Never stop praying. Be thankful in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you who belong to Christ Jesus.” Melissa said, true joy comes from serving the Lord. We should never stop praying and believing no matter how bad the situation may look. So, keep the faith, trust the Lord and His timing.
